Crete is the largest Greek island and a very popular travel destination for good reason. Every year, the vacation island enchants visitors with its extensive sandy beaches, turquoise waters and diverse culture.

There are various options for traveling to Crete, which we will explain in more detail below.

The most popular means of transportation to Crete remains the plane. The flight from Germany takes around 3.5 hours on a direct flight. There are two international airports on Crete: Heraklion Airport, which belongs to the island's capital, and Chania Airport, which is located on the north coast of the island. Most German airports are connected to Crete by charter and low-cost airlines and by regular scheduled flights.

Flight prices are also highly seasonal and are known to be more expensive during the vacations. Outside of the vacations, tickets are available for as little as 20 euros each way. On average, prices for direct flights from Germany to Crete are around EUR 150 for a return flight.

Our tip: The more flexibly you can choose your travel times, the greater the chance of finding a bargain. Sometimes it is even worth booking two individual one-way tickets with different airlines.
