Entry requirements
German nationals can enter Greece with the following documents:
- Passport: Yes
- Temporary passport: Yes
- Identity card: Yes
- Temporary identity card: Yes, must be valid
- Children's passport: Yes
Important information on validity: Greece is a member of the European Agreement on the Regulation of the Movement of Persons between Member States of the Council of Europe of 13.12.1957. With the exception of the temporary identity card, travel documents may not have expired for more than one year.
Please note that some airlines may have different regulations for the travel documents to be carried. A valid passport or identity card or a replacement document issued by the German consular missions in Greece is therefore required for flights to Germany.
No compulsory vaccinations are required when entering Greece.
Import and export regulations
The import and export of goods is subject to the directives of the European Union. Although no general checks on goods are carried out, random checks by the police at borders and in cross-border traffic are possible.
In Greece, the acquisition, possession, distribution, import and export of drugs, even in small quantities for personal use, are severely punished.
Special customs regulations apply to the import of defense sprays and weapons.
Defense sprays, even those that are freely available in Germany, should not be brought into Greece. Their possession and use are prohibited there and will be prosecuted. This also applies to all types of weapons, in particular large knives, swords, sabres and similar objects.
The unauthorized possession and export of archaeological artefacts is also severely punished. The acquisition and export of antiquities is only permitted with a permit from the Ministry of Culture.
Under no circumstances should travelers take stones or other objects from archaeological sites with them.
Please also note the special customs regulations for the import of defense sprays and weapons.
