Vamos - tradition and authenticity

The hike from Vamos to the nearby chapel of Agios Georgios leads through a particularly charming landscape and is popular with locals and visitors alike.

Vrisses - A paradise by the river

Vrisses, just a few kilometres from Vamos, is another charming village known for its lush vegetation and idyllic riverside location. The name "Vrisses" means "springs" in Greek, referring to the many water springs and rivers in the area.

Vrisses is known for its relaxed atmosphere and its traditional Cretan tavernas serving delicious local dishes. The riverside tavernas are particularly famous, offering shady spots and a cool breeze, ideal for hot summer days.

The village also has several historic churches and chapels, including the church of Agios Konstantinos, which is known for its beautiful frescoes. A visit to the dairy of Vrisses, which produces traditional Cretan yoghurt and cheese, is a must for foodies.

The natural beauty of Vrisses is impressive. The river that flows through the village is lined with plane trees and other trees that provide pleasant shade in summer. There are several hiking trails that lead along the river and through the surrounding hills, ideal for walks and nature watching.
