Bike tours

Crete, the largest island in Greece, offers breathtaking scenery and a wide range of opportunities for cycling tours. From the rugged coastline to the majestic mountains, the island offers exciting routes for cyclists of all levels.

Crete impresses with a unique variety of landscapes. The White Mountains (Lefka Ori) tower in the west and are ideal for challenging mountain tours. Here, cyclists can cycle along winding roads through deep gorges, such as the famous Samaria Gorge, and past fragrant pine forests. In the east of the island, the gentler hills and fertile plains of Lasithi offer more relaxed tours.

The coastal roads of Crete offer spectacular views of the deep blue Mediterranean. The route along the south coast from Paleochora to Matala is particularly popular. This route leads through picturesque fishing villages, past secluded beaches and over steep cliffs. Along the way, there are always opportunities for a swim break in one of the many hidden bays.

Crete is rich in history, and many cycling tours take you past important archaeological sites and charming villages. A tour from Heraklion, the island's capital, to the Palace of Knossos is a must for culture-loving cyclists. On the way there, you can marvel at the ancient remains and experience the stories of the Minoans, one of the oldest civilisations in Europe, at first hand.

Due to the varied topography of the island, cyclists should be well prepared. A robust mountain bike is ideal for the more challenging routes in the mountains and on gravel paths. If you are more interested in relaxed coastal tours, a trekking bike will also be fine. The best time for cycling tours on Crete is spring or autumn, when the temperatures are pleasant and the landscape is in full bloom.
