Most campsites on Crete are well equipped and offer amenities such as electricity connections, clean sanitary facilities, restaurants and small shops. Many sites are also suitable for motorhomes and offer special pitches. In the high season, especially in the summer months, it is advisable to book in advance as pitches can fill up quickly.
One of the best-known campsites on Crete is "Camping Koutsounari" on the south coast of the island, which is known for its beautiful location right by the sea. Another popular site is "Camping Elizabeth" near Rethymno, which offers modern facilities as well as direct access to a sandy beach. "Camping Paleochora in the west of the island is particularly popular with hikers and nature lovers, as it is in close proximity to numerous hiking trails and nature parks.
